Patricia “Pat” (Sheffer) Niles of Ghent,+ New York, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026. Pat was a beloved wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was kind, generous, a devoted sports fan, loved a party, and a good cocktail. She was a memorable woman that enjoyed life and those around her. She will be dearly missed.
Pat was born on January 29, 1943 to Wallace Sheffer, Sr. and Viginia (Gifford) Sheffer. She attended a one room school on Potter Hill and graduated in 1960. She went on to complete nursing school in 1961, beginning a career dedicated to caring for others.
On March 23, 1963, she married the love of her life Charles David Niles. Together they shared over 60 years of marriage filled with love, partnership and treasured memories.
Pat worked as a nurse for many years, providing care to countless patients. She also spent time caring for her young neighbors, Eric and Sean French, whom she loved as family. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond her career. She was active in her community as an auxiliary volunteer and dedicated her time to the local food pantry.
Pat was an avid sports fan who faithfully followed New York's teams and took great pride in supporting her children and grandchildren at their sporting events. She could often be found in the stands, cheering enthusiastically while meticulously keeping her own scorebook.
She is survived by her loving husband, Charles David Niles; her children Charles David, Jr. (Cathy), Philip (Patti), and Jerry (Wendy), her grandchildren Brianna Murphy (Alex), Emma Leonard (Eli), Jack Niles, Megan Niles (Chris Matoske), Erica Senecal (Austin), Parker Niles (Nicolette), Tanner Niles (Kelly), Skyler Morgan (Chris); great grandchildren Charles “Charlie” and Adaline Leonard, Blair Murphy, Philip Senecal, Delaney Niles and Margo Morgan. She is also survived by her siblings, Claudia Lohnas (Fran), Wallace “Wally” Sheffer, Jr. (Kathy), Charles “Chucky” Sheffer (Jackie), Pat Murnane and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her sisters, Gail Murnane and Wilda Sheffer.
Pat's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on through the family and friends who were fortunate enough to know and love her. The many memories she created and the lives she touched will never be forgotten.
A time to share memories and offer condolences with the family will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 10:00am to 12:30pm at French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Ave, Chatham, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00pm from St. James Church, Hudson Avenue, Chatham. Arrangements have been entrusted to the direction of Robert M. Donaghue, French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham.
