Obituary

Paul Woodrow Burson, of Red Rock on July 25, 2006 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.  Born December 19, 1916 in Fredericktown Ohio to Edward and Grace Ruhl Burson.  He attended Fredericktown High School graduating in 1936. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America while in High School and received a jacket with the organizations emblem which Paul recently donated it to the Future Farmers of America Museum in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. He worked in the carpentry trade after high school and volunteered for the Navy in World War II.  In 1946 he married Marie Goerlitz in Mt. Vernon, New York, who predeceased him in 1985, and returned to Ohio where he returned to the carpentry trade. In 1951 he moved to Red Rock. He worked as a carpenter until he retired in 1981. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Red Rock Rod and Gun Club and Canaan Rifle Club. He was a member of the New Lebanon Legion Post and the Ghent V.F.W.. He was a founding member of the Red Rock Fire Company, and former member of the Red Rock Historical Society.  He enjoyed being a member of the Canaan Senior Citizens. He is survived by his son George Burson of Cocolalla, Idaho and his daughter Susan (Michael) Poole of East Chatham, his grandchildren David Poole, Kelly Spurr and Lisa Poole, his 3 great grandchildren: Aiden Spurr, Riley Spurr and Ruby Poole.  His brother's Frank and Neil of Mt. Vernon Ohio, his sister's Wanza Smith of Mt. Vernon, Ohio and Lois Welch of Fredericktown, Ohio and Marjorie Frey of Bellevue, Washington.  He was predeceased by his brother Vaughn Burson. Family will receive friends Saturday July 29th.from 1-4 pm at The French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue Chatham, N.Y. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Red Rock Volunteer Fire Company Building Fund at 401 County Route 24, East Chatham, New York 12060 in his memory
