Peter J. Van Cook of Old Chatham passed away July 12, 2015. Born October 1, 1947 he was the son of the late Norman and Patricia Nolan Van Cook. He grew up in Bronx and graduated Cardinal Hayes High School. After graduation he went into the Army and served his country in Vietnam. The experience of war would follow him through his life. Peter worked for the U.S. Postal Service and studied to become A+ certified moving to the Veteran's Administration as a computer specialist working there until he retired in 2007. After retirement he and his wife moved to Old Chatham where he enjoyed his family, his music and working with computers. Peter is survived by his wife Barbara Mills Van Cook, his step daughter Jennifer Mills, his grandchildren, Isaiah and Olivia Edmondson, a brother, Norman and sisters, Barbara Hinchliffe and Nancy Espostio. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 15th from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:30am at Saint James Church. Interment will follow at the Fred Loescher Veteran's Cemetery in New Hempstead NY.
