Obituary

Robert F. Radley, 85, of Valatie, NY, died on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at the Veteran's Hospital in Albany. Born in Herrings, NY, Mr. Radley was the son of the late Charles E. and Flora Brown Radley.  A graduate of Chatham High School, he served his country with the 202nd AAA Automatic Weapons Battalion in the Pacific during World War II.  After military service, he graduated from the McAllister School of Embalming in NYC but pursued a career in the paper industry. He was supervisor of the Specialities Division at Columbia Box Board Mills in Chatham and later was employed at Fort Orange Paper in Castleton, NY. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Virginia T. Radley; four children, Robert C. Radley and wife, Angela, of Calabasas Hills, CA; Paul D. Radley and wife, Carolyn, of Wichita, KS; Michael J. Radley and wife, Melissa, of Chatham, NY; and Karen Radley Bielinski and husband, Stefan, of Albany He also is survived by  grandchildren, Tara, Ryan, Paul Jr., Phillip, Benjamin, Sarah, and Jordin Radley, Melissa and  Robert N. Klapp, Staren Bielinski, and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Chilson, and by his brothers Charles F. and Donald R. Radley. Bob Radley was a member of VFW Post 5933, an exempt member of Ocean Fire Company No. 1 of the Village of Chatham, and was an active then social member of the Ghent Volunteer Fire Company.  He was in the first class of deacons of the Upper New York Synod of the Lutheran Church of America, served as a Congregational Deacon for Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ghent, and as Vice President of the Church Council for many years. He also was a Trustee and past President of the Chatham Center Rural Cemetery Association. There will be no viewing hours.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 160 Central Avenue, Albany, NY 12206.  Interment will take place later in the Spring.  For those who wish, contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church (above address) or to the Chatham Center Rural Cemetery Association, 3866 Rt. 66, Valatie, NY 12184.  To leave a message for the family online, visit: www.frenchblasl.com
