Obituary

Robert V. Sheehy, a longtime resident of Columbia County, passed peacefully on 18 November at the age of ninety-one.  A private service was held on 23 November.  Born in NYC in 1924, he entered the U.S. Army after high school and was awarded a Purple Heart after serving in Europe and being wounded in action in 1944.  He wed Marguerite Haggerty in 1947 and in the course of their married life, which lasted until her death in 2011, they nurtured a family of ten children.  A devout Catholic, he was an active and respected parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Hudson.  His interests were many and varied.  A skilled violinist, he was also an athlete when young, and he remained a loyal fan of the favorites of his youth:  The New York Yankees, the Green Bay Packers, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  Always active, he was at various times in his life an accomplished swimmer, a competitive bowler, and an avid camper.  History was a passion, and he had a particular affinity for the American Revolution, the West, and the great American railroads.  A man of great integrity, generous with his time and interest, he was a loyal friend, a good neighbor, a responsible citizen, and a proud American.  He will be sorely missed, but gratefully remembered, by his children and grandchildren. Condolences may be conveyed at frenchblasl.com.
