Spencer Moccio of Ghent N.Y. was raised to glory on September 14, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Spencer was born on December 20, 1923 and was the longtime owner of Moccio's Bar and Grille, "Home of the Spence Fry," after taking over the business from his parents. He enlisted in the US Navy and in 1945, was honorably discharged after serving in World War II. He spent most of his military service on the USS Biloxi during the Pacific Campaign which saw much action and, in one instance, was hit by a Japanese kamikaze attack.
Spencer was preceded in death by his parents Aniello and Angelene Moccio and siblings Raffaela Mesick, Francis Bowes, Frank Moccio, and Angelo Moccio. Spencer is survived by son Craig (Kerri) Moccio and granddaughters, Abbie and Sophie, all of Ann Arbor, MI. He is also survived by sisters Teresa Every of Chatham, N.Y., Mary French of Great Barrington Ma., and Carmela Wolfe of Valatie, N.Y. as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family will receive friends on Thursday September 16th, 6-8pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl funeral home, Chatham, and a memorial service will be held at St. James Church on Monday September 20 at 11am.
