Stewart "Butch" Almstead
Stewart C. Almstead, 65, a long-time resident of Philmont, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born October 17, 1947 in Hudson. He was the son of Delores Almstead and the late Stewart C. Almstead of Philmont.
Stewart graduated Ockawamick high school and then enlisted in the Navy in 1965 serving two years.
Stewart was a long-time employee of the Fireman's Home in Hudson, working security, beloved by both the staff and the residents. He retired last year.
Stewart was an active member of the community he lived in, always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors. He was an active member of the Chatham Fire Department and Rescue Squad, and later the Philmont Rescue Squad. He was also a member of the Chatham Methodist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Delores Almstead of Philmont. He also had several loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at the Fireman's Home at 6pm on Friday October 11. In Lieu of flowers contributions in Stewart's name may be made to the Fireman's Home of Hudson. Online condolences may be conveyed at www.frenchblasl.com.
