Thomas Robert Casey, formerly of Austerlitz, New York passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center. Thomas was born on February 18, 1946 in the Bronx. He was drafted into the United States Marines in 1966 and served during the Vietnam War. Tom was a proud veteran and had many stories to tell. Upon his arrival home, he met and married the love of his life, Donna. Together they enjoyed 58 wonderful years together. They moved to upstate New York and built a life together with their two children. He was a gifted HVAC technician throughout his life. Although Tom worked as a technician most of his career, he could fix anything with his personal skill set. Many of his friends and Co workers often referred to him as Macgyver. His artistic ability was quite remarkable as well. He could draw anything and everything freehand.
Tom enjoyed hunting & playing golf. He was active in the VFW league which played various courses around the county. He was also a proud member of the Ghent VFW and served as commander. His greatest accomplishment in life was being a loving husband, father & grandfather. Together with his family they enjoyed yearly vacations. Traveling all over and going on numerous cruises. He was always honored and pleased with the family that he helped create.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Donna. His two sons, Daniel (Stacy) Casey and James (Heather) Casey. His eight grandchildren, Erin (Anthony) Allison, Tyler, Travis, Trevor, Matthew Guido, Andrew, & Thomas Casey Two great grandchildren, Sawyer and Emma King. His siblings, James (Yen) Casey Dennis Casey and Diane (Howard) Glick. Many in-laws, nieces, nephews & Cousins.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to George Traver for his compassion and dedication throughout the years. The family also would like to thank the caring staff at the V.A.
A time to share memories and offer condolences with the family will be held Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl, located at 25 Railroad Ave, Chatham, NY. There will be a short prayer service conducted at 6:45PM. Inurnment will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery on Friday at 9:00AM. Those who wish to attend are asked to please arrive at the cemetery no earlier than 8:45AM. Arrangements have been entrusted to the direction of Robert M. Donaghue, French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham.
