Vera Tompkins Williams passed away September 11, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Born on February 7, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Katherine Gearing Tompkins.
Vera grew up in New Concord and was in the graduating class of 36' from Chatham Central Schools. She married Russell B. Williams on March 14, 1954, he predeceased her. They moved to Chatham and then to East Chatham where they would open the Berkshire Liquor Store.
She was a member of the New Concord Reformed Church, the East Chatham Grange #1066 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the East Chatham Fire Company. She was a wonderful seamstress till she lost her vision later in life but continued her other activities, gardening, baking cookies and knitting scarves for the church. She is survived by her caregivers, Mildred K. Gauthier and Sandra J. Jackson and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, September 14th at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham, at 10am, the funeral service will follow at 11am.
