Obituary

Victoria Karwowski was born June 2, 1930 to Polish immigrant parents Frank and Mary Matecka Karwowski in the Bronx and passed away peacefully in Ghent NY on July 19, 2024 at the age of 94. She preferred to be called Vicky. She lived in the Blass Family Care home in East Chatham for over 50 years where she was a true blessing to everyone there. She watched four generations of Blass' grow in that home and was adored by each one. In her younger years, she would often push the children on the swing and loved to swing herself. In her older years she liked to do crafts with Melissa's granddaughter Emma Lou. She really enjoyed being outdoors. She liked to be in the kitchen helping in any way she could, too. She loved going out to eat, shopping, going to movies, dances, attending church and going on vacations. She visited many places including NYC, NH, CT. VT, RI and FL just to name a few. She was also employed by COARC for over 40 years as a seamstress on an industrial sewing machine producing canvas and tapestry tote bags among many other items. She was a very hard worker who resisted retirement until well into her eighties. About 5 years ago she moved into a group home in Hudson under the Access Supports for Living program where she received excellent care, especially from her friend Kiki, until her admission to Ghent Rehab a few months ago. To know her was to love her and if she loved you she would tell you she said prayers for you which would humble you on the spot. She liked to laugh and crack jokes and one of her favorite songs was "Yellow Submarine". As with most ladies of her generation she liked Elvis Presley, too. She had a sister Anna who lived in Ellenville NY whom she visited as often as she could where they exchanged gifts and shared meals until Anna's death in 2018. She leaves behind dear friends Melissa Blass and the entire Blass family and Donna Opitz who was like a sister to her for over 50 years. It is certain that when she arrived at the gates of heaven, the Lord said, "Well done, good and faithful servant...enter into my rest." Matthew 25:23.
