Walter Stephen Stahowski passed away on January 4th 2013. Walter was born on November 16th, 1925 to the late Stephen and Mary ( Napieracz) Stahowski of Great Barrington Massachusetts. Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Josephine (Alauria) Stahowski. Two daughters Joanne Craft (John) of Ghent, and Theresa (Joseph) Nostrand of Walden New York. Four grandchildren Audrey, Laura, Robert and Steven and great grand daughter Emily Quell. Three sisters Helen Phaneuf of North Adams Massachusetts, Alice (Alfred) Corrigan Massachusetts, MaryAnn (Paul) Lapinsky Connecticut, and 11 nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded by his beloved sister Virginia (Mario) Zanconato and nephew Frances Zanconato, and nephew Michael Lapinsky.
Walter served his country in the Navy on the USS Wisconsin from 1942 to 1946. Walter was a 60 year member of the VFW Post 8348 and a 50 year member of the Philmont Volunteer Fire department. Walter worked for many years at the Canada Dry Company in Hudson then later on for the Lorbrok Corporation. Walter was an avid gardener and enjoyed his yard work. Walter loved his sports Teams the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and the New England Patriots. Walter loved going to the American Legion to play and call Bingo on Thursday nights. He was also enjoyed working on puzzles.
Calling hours will be Sunday, January 6th from 1 to 5pm at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Basl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, New York 12037. A religious service will be celebrated at the funeral home on Monday at 11am, interment will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
