William Ross Homestead of West Lebanon, NY died suddenly on April 12, 2014.A lifelong resident of the area, Bill was an active member of the NewLebanon Congregational Church, where he was remembered this past Thursdayat a memorial service as a frequent participant, and a warm and generousfriend.
Bill attended the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, andgraduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in MarineTransportation. He was a collegiate swimmer and an avid horseback rider.
Bill was an Ensign in the US Naval Reserve and had a Third Mate's Ocean's License. He worked for Reinauer Transport and Polling Brothers as a barge mate and captain.
Bill is survived by his four brothers and their wives: Robert and Mary Lou Homestead of Sayville, NY, Thomas and Kathy Homestead of Tully,NY, Peter and Martha Homestead of Hopewell Junction, NY, and Chuck and Korin Homestead of Anchorage, AK. He was adored by his 11 nieces and nephews to whom he was a loving, playful and doting uncle. In addition to his circle of close friends, he left behind Odie: his loyal dog and constant companion.
