William E. Jones of Chatham on April 15, 2016 at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born March, 21, 1932 in Chatham, NY the son of the late John and Elizabeth Kearney Jones. William was the last surviving sibling of thirteen. He attended Chatham Union School and graduated CBA in Albany, NY. After high school he went into the US Army, serving in Germany. After service he went to work for the local phone company for a few years leaving there to work at NYSEG retiring after a 37 year career. Bill was a life member of the Ghent Rod and Gun Club, past commander of the Chatham American Legion, life member of S.W. Smith Hook and Ladder Company of the Chatham Fire Department and member of the Ghent VFW. He really enjoyed family, friends and helping folks at the Payne Home. He also enjoyed his trips to the Thousand Islands and reminiscing. He married Jane Welch December 16, 1955 and resided in Chatham. Jane passed away in 1997. Bill is survived by his sons, Wm. Jeffrey (Mary) and Timothy (Robin Gardner), grandchildren, Katie(Chris) Dedrick, Bryan Jones and Austin Jones, great grandchildren, Madeline Flory and Jeffrey Dedrick and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Caroline, Margaret, Mary, Dorothy, Florence, Ruth, Jeanette and Nancy, brothers, Peter, Jack, Tom, and Bob. Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home Sunday, April 17th from 3 to 6pm, Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, at 10am in St. James Church, Chatham.
